OCAD University and Hazelton Lanes Hosts 2nd Annual Arts Festival in Yorkville in Collaboration with First Capital Realty May 8 - 18, 2014

April 24, 2014

TORONTO, ON (April 21, 2014) - Art and commerce collide when the Faculty of Art at OCAD University (OCAD U) and Hazelton Lanes hosts the 2nd Annual Hazelton Lanes Arts Festival presented in collaboration with First Capital Realty. 27 artists from OCAD U will present their work at the Hazelton Lanes Viewing Gallery Thursday May 8 to Sunday May 18, 2014.

The festival features a juried exhibition of contemporary artworks by students and recent OCAD U graduates. The space will be transformed into a pop-up studio featuring artwork that spans painting, photography, print-making and time-based media. There will be a number of dynamic events including artist talks, panel discussions and workshops. For 10 days, OCAD U?s artists will take over Hazelton Lane?s Viewing Gallery, located on the upper level across from TNT.

“The Hazelton Lanes Arts Festival is a fantastic showcase for the work of OCAD University?s emerging artists. The host, First Capital Reality, is an exemplary corporate citizen and we are honoured by our partnership with them! Visitors will experience a dynamic variety of original art works, meet and purchase works from the next generation of Canada?s artistic talent,” says Dr. Sara Diamond, President and Vice-Chancellor of OCAD University

In its second edition, the festival is titled Reconstructing (S)P(L)ACE, a play on the word “place” and how it resonates with/in “space”. Artists will explore the notions of renovation, adaptation and location – as the event takes place at Hazelton Lanes while the centre undergoes a major redevelopment.

“We?re glad to partner with OCAD U for this festival in its second year, and we?re excited to see how the artists capture this theme in the upcoming exhibit,” says Dori J. Segal, President and CEO of First Capital Realty Inc. “Supporting youth and celebrating arts, culture and community is important to First Capital Realty, and this partnership with OCAD U exemplifies these values and our ongoing commitment to the arts.”
